The Diamond Chart: A Detailed Analysis
The trend towards higher powers and voltages, and therefore the need for higher dielectric values and higher resistance to mechanical stress in the active components of transformers, requires the use of special insulation products for the interlayer of the windings of transformers in oil bath.
What is Diamond Paper?
The "Diamond Paper Prepreg" is a high density paper: Presspan, of pure diamond-printed cellulose with epoxy resin in stage "B" on both sides. The 9.5 x 9.5 mm diamonds are spaced at 6.35 mm and therefore the unprinted surface is 64%. This allows both a safe adhesion of the insulator to the conductor, and an adequate number of channels permeable to the cooling dielectric fluid. "Diamonds" are composed of epoxy resin in stage "B" with a thickness of mm.0,020 ( 0,010): At the temperature of 110 μa C.- 130 μa C. the resin fluidifies, adheres to the conductor and then, after the curing time, it cements irreversibly in stage "C" to the conductor; in this state the resin cannot be attacked by the dielectric fluid.
Properties and Advantages of Diamond Paper
- The use of DPP paper increases the rigidity of the coil and the locking of the turns, without preventing the passage of the cooling fluid. The axial and radial forces, caused by a short-circuit, will be retained by the cementation of the coils.
- The resin-free surface allows the evacuation of air and moisture contained in the paper during the drying process.
Applications and Usability of Diamond Paper
DPP paper is supplied with dry epoxy rhombus to be applied as other interlayer insulation. During the drying process of the machine, diamond resin is polymerized under the following alternative conditions:
- can be supplied in standard version
- can be supplied in TU version (Thermally Upgraded)
